Do You Hear Crickets Chirping?-Updated
**UPDATE**
I took this article down for a brief period in order to investigate claims that this professor was mistakenly named. I did some research and, based upon my findings, have found sufficient reason to believe that these allegations are true. As such, I report my findings:
This is the article in which I originally found the story. It appears to be a reputable blog site, but with the suggestion that the information was incorrect, I investigated.
This article from the Columbus Dispatch refers to Dr. Pino and an article he wrote for the school newspaper in 2002 that was an ode to a Palestinian suicide bomber. Pino called the bomber a martyr. This article further tells of Pino’s blog on the Internet where he writes that U.S. servicemen are butchers who massacre Iraqis and urges readers to “join the Islamic resistance.” It does not specifically identify the blog, but the inference seems clear.
This online petition connects the professor to the website in question.
This blog site article also mentions an article penned by Pino entitled “Singing Out Prayer for a Youth Martyr” which used to be on the Kent website but has since been removed.
Finally, a contributor to Townhall.com claims to have screen shots of Pino’s IP address that correspond with the exact dates and times global war posted comments on another blog (host name rmp.history.kent.edu). She also claims to have found the following identifier on other blog comments: “Author : Lover of Angels (jpino@kent.edu)”. This author is associated with similar comments mentioned throughout the article.
My conclusion is that there is enough evidence to do as I have suggested in my following article: contact the people in charge. It is their job to investigate further and take action.
I want to make it very clear that people who are making death threats are idiots. It is our job to notify the proper authorities of this situation. It is not our job to take the law into our own hands or to use the same sort of language that Dr. Pino advocates in order to combat the problem.
With that, I submit the article as originally written.
***END UPDATE***
I sure do. As I recently noted here, the democrats recently dropped everything to write a letter urging Republicans to put a stop to a game being played on college campuses. The game is called “Catch an Illegal Immigrant” and is basically Hide and Seek only with a different name. democrat “leadership” literally found this offensive enough to demand that a stop be put to it.
However, they are curiously silent about this traitor:

This is Julio César Pino. He is on the Ohio State payroll as a professor of Latin American History at Kent State. His current courses include “Comparative Latin American Revolutions”, “Afro-Latin America” and “History of Women in Latin America”. In 1997 he published “Family and Favela: the Reproduction of Poverty in Rio de Janeiro” (Greenwood Press). He is the author of numerous articles in Latin American Research Review, Journal of Urban History, Latin American Perspectives and other journals. Dr. Pino is listed in Who’s Who in American Education and Who’s Who in America.
Wow, sounds like a pretty bright guy. The Ohio taxpayers have a seriously talented man teaching their students. That’s true, if you consider a pro-jihad muslim openly indoctrinating in our State-funded classrooms. He’s pretty difficult to get hold of since he only has office hours two days per week, taking the lead from Congressional democrats I imagine. So, when he’s busy not coming in to the office, he’s writing this little vile piece of filth online: Global War.
Yes, this is a pro-jihad site that openly professes support for the Taliban and Osama bin-Laden. When I say “openly”, I mean it in the strictest of contexts. From his site:
“We are a jihadist news service, and provide battle dispatches, training manuals, and jihad videos to our brothers worldwide.”
You might be inclined to ask yourself, “Self, isn’t that providing aid to the enemy?” I know I did. After realizing that I was doing this aloud and people were looking at me strangely, I thought I might restrict future questions to internal dialogue only. I then decided to see what other worthwhile gems this taxpayer-funded “educator” has to offer the youth of America.
Under the entry “Sister Detonates Herself to Eliminate Shia Traitors”, Dr. Pino tells the account of a female homicide bomber who recently killed 41 people. His assessment: “Now she lies on the Golden Couch of Paradise”.
Getting upset yet? You should. Perhaps the fact that he refers to his students as his “little jihadists” might help? Perhaps you think this sort of thing falls under free speech? Certainly it does. In America, he is free to think and say all of those things. However, with freedom comes responsibility and accountability. Being free to think and say these things doesn’t mean you can do so without the possibility of those words and actions having ramifications.
I believe that he should not only be dismissed as an educator, but someone should be looking into his claims that he is providing battle dispatches, training manuals, and jihad videos to the enemy. If he truly is, losing his job should be just the beginning of his troubles.
Now, please speak up if you disagree with me on this: this is far more reprehensible than some 18 to 20-year old students playing Hide and Seek. Where is the outrage from Howard Dean? More importantly, where are the news headlines? There are none! This story (so far) only exists in the blogosphere, apparently since the Associated (with liberals) Press is too busy trying to not write articles about Paris Hilton.
Just imagine for a moment that a college professor was writing a blog site that claimed women should stay at home and make babies. Or, perhaps a college professor was teaching his students about the positive aspects of Christianity. Or, heaven forbid, told a classroom that islamic jihad is actually our enemy. I imagine there would be voices from the rooftops of Washington D.C. demanding the immediate termination of those professors. Yet, much like the beloved Ward Churchill (who called the victims of September 11 “little Eichmans”), Dr. Pino is apparently getting a free pass for teaching our youth that bombing innocent citizens is actually a good thing.
He doesn’t get a free pass here. Get mad about this. If you know someone in Ohio, as I do, tell them about this. Turn your television off for ten minutes and write a letter to the elected leadership in Ohio. Make telephone calls to Kent State. Object to this. If the liberal media won’t report it, then it is up to the rest of us. Here’s where we can all start:

The following press release appears on the Kent website. Are we sure this is the right guy? It says it's not his picture on the site.
Statement Regarding Associate Professor Julio Pino
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 1, 2007
Julio Pino, an associate professor of history at Kent State University, is being accused of authoring an anti-American Web site. This site has no connection to Kent State, and we object to having the university’s name linked to it. When the issue came to our attention, we investigated the issue and found the following:
We have no evidence that this Web site is authored by Pino – that is not his picture on the site, and it contains no reference to him or to Kent State. In any case, there is no connection between this site and the university.
No university servers or other resources have been used to create or maintain the site.
Further, there have been no complaints registered about Pino’s classroom conduct or demeanor, by students or other instructors.
The opinions on the Web site do not represent the university. We do not speak for Pino nor defend any views he might have, and he does not speak for Kent State, his department or other faculty.
The university and Pino have been subjected to hate mail and threats, and we will continue to monitor the issue.
Regarding calls that Pino be summarily dismissed: As any employer, when deciding whether an employee should be terminated, we have a responsibility to follow proper processes as outlined by university procedures and protections under the law.
The university has asked those blogs and other sources to refrain from writing or disseminating information that associates Kent State with this Web site.

I'm wondering about this one. The picture on the website you refer to looks nothing like the picture you've posted. He also lists his profession as "artist" and makes no mention of the university.
Are you sure this isn't all hype?
And even if it's not, can we all agree that death threats against the university make about as much sense as the garbage put forward on this website of his?

Here's a link to the Fox News story covering this topic. I think this guy did it. What a loser AND a criminal.
Link: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,255678,00.html
Here's what Kent State has to say about it:
"We do not speak for Pino nor defend any views he might have, and he does not speak for Kent State, his department or other faculty," Ron Kirksey, a university spokesman, told the Plain Dealer.
He does not speak for Kent State???? HE IS YOUR EMPLOYEE!!! Of COURSE he speaks for you. When employees say things that their employers do not agree with, they get fired BECAUSE everyone knows that the employee is speaking on behalf of the employer.
This is so LAME! Basically, under this theory, the school has absolutely no accountability for the people it hires and takes no responsibility for their conduct whatsoever no matter what.
That's pretty convenient for the school, isn't it? I'm SURE they would take ALL THE CREDIT for anything he said that, say, helped them raise additional money or improved their image.
Sorry fellas, you're on the hook for this one. You interviewed this guy, you hired this guy, you oversee his teaching (or should) and you are therefore on the hook for all of the fit that hits the shan here.
Thanks for coming across this, and for verifying it. I have some letters to write.
(Again, as the death threats being made are no different than the terrorism we accuse this guy of supporting, get your heads out of your asses and deal with this like civilized people, okay?)

First and foremost, I would like to thank Jim for keeping me honest on this. In hindsight, I should have done the research before posting. Nonetheless, my article was based on one source that appeared trustworthy and I figured that alone was more fact-checking than Dan Rather did. Luckily for me, it turned out that the information was indeed credible.
Actually, the extra fact-checking got me even hotter under the collar. As it turns out, this has been going on since at least 2002. The fact that Kent State is protecting him as they are makes the entire institution as guilty as he is. Perhaps they should lose their Federal and State funding. No action will be taken until people voice their objections, so I urge readers again to contact the people in charge. Tell them that, as taxpayers, you object to the people’s dollars funding this sort of blatant hostile activity. Tell them that, as taxpayers, you object to a person this nefarious being charged with the education of our youth.
With regards to the picture on the hate site being different than the actual guy, have you noticed that not all bloggers use their actual photos? I’m one of the few that do. I don’t think it should surprise any of us that he is most likely using a stock photo of some jihadist from the AP wires.
Here’s the good news: one of the visitors to the site today who read this article was from the domain senate.gov. That was the whole idea! The word is getting to the right people! Hopefully, they fully investigate and act on their findings.
