I saw this coming from several miles away:“Nigeria has criticised (sic) new security measures for passengers flying to and from the United States as unfair and said they amounted to discrimination against 150 million people.Extra checks including body pat-downs?!?! The horror! The audacity! How dare Nigerians be subjected to the security measures in which all Americans are also subject? Racist, I say! Racist!
“The US government has announced that travellers (sic) from 14 countries, including Nigeria, are to be subjected to extra checks including body pat-downs, after a young Nigerian was accused of trying to blow up a US jet on Christmas Day.”
Says Nigerian Information Minister Dora Akunyili:
“It is unfair to discriminate against over 150 million people because of the behaviour of one person.”I expect the response from the Obami to be as predictable as this outrage from Nigeria. It will be something along the lines of, “You’re right, that was unfair and discriminatory. We’ll stop immediately.” How many others miss the “Cowboy Politics” of our last President right about now? Wouldn’t you like the response to be similar to what we Americans already hear any time we don’t like how we’re treated at the airport? “Don’t like it? Don’t fly.”
So, while the wheels of SmartPower™ grind out some appeasement, I will suggest a proper response to Ms. Akunyili:
“Unfair? I’ll show you unfair: no more flights to the United States for you. Miss those pat-downs now?”

It's absolutely true that this is discriminatory. So is having a visa policy toward one country and not another. So are policies of sanctions toward one country versus another. So is giving one country more or less foreign aid. If we, in any way, treat one country differently than another -- even if based on facts in evidence, as here -- we're discriminating. What else would they have us do? And are they going to impose the same nondiscrimination standard on themselves? Of course not!
Discrimination seems to surface most often in reaction to flagrant criminal/antisocial activities. Nigeria's previous claim to international fame centered on letters offering riches to anyone who would offer financial assistance to a Nigerian who needed money to free up millions in frozen assets. Interesting concept, if poorly administered.
So now they are in the "big leagues" with their very own sharia-addled terrorist bomber - and they cry foul?
If we had national leadership with any intestinal fortitude (let alone cojones)discrimination would take a back seat to selective, targeted, military retribution.
Of course,it would be discriminatory to leave out retaliation for the collusion (or plain stupidity) of the "security" elements at the Amsterdam airport where this individual with no passport, no baggage, and a one-way ticket paid for in cash was allowed by a "supervisor" to board an international flight to the U.S.
Oooh, here’s an idea! Since we’re closing Gitmo anyway, let’s utilize the base for something worthwhile. It can be a quarantine area for flights destined for the United States. That way, there is no discrimination - all flights to enter the United States receive the same treatment.
Not bad .....
Might give some of the revolutionaries aboard an opportunity to "jump ship" and visit with their idol, Castro.
I think the real solution is simple. Ban all Americans from inbound international flights! I mean why do terrorists shove high explosives into their Fruit of the Looms? To kill Americans of course! If we remove all Americans from the planes then we have removed the terrorist's motive to act. I am sure Janet will come up with this one sooner or later.
If this doesn't work for some reason we can always attack Canada...
Maybe,as with most things, there is a time and place to be discriminating in regards to who we allow to enter our country. And that time and place is here and now.I travel by plane often, and i hate all the extra hassle at the airport as much as anyone.Especially when we see news reports on how they are dropping the ball. But i prepare for the delays and i wear my slip-on shoes and i deal with it.Call me kooky, but i would rather have the extra hassle over being blown up any day of the week. And perhaps there are some things that are just fact. For instance:there are countries that we know for a fact HATE AMERICA.How do we know?they are more than willing to demonstate in their own countries, to no end,how much and with what vigor they do loathe us.So...an ounce of prevention in violent times my friends.
Don't like it?Don't fly.
